Security Systems Can Be A Headache When You Sell Your Home
In today's unsettled times it's understandable homeowners feel safer with an alarm system.
And today's technology is really cool. Ipads that control everything. Apps that let you see who's at your door on your phone when you are 1,600 miles away.
But the challenge is, these companies make you sign multi-year agreements. Yes, you can take the equipment to your next home. Or encourage your buyers to take over the contract.
But what if you DON'T need it at your next place? Or your buyers already have an alarm system? Or are gun enthusiasts like my buyers who just closed today. What happens to your contract?
You have to continue paying. My advice to sellers: If you are in a seller's market, make the alarm system somehow part of the transaction. Request your buyers pick up the security contract., for instance. Forget about it in a buyer's market.
Just something to think about when you get ready to sell your home.
